The results of this study can give good management implications for mitigating effects of future droughts. The results show that protected areas needs heterogeneity as this can help populations to seek better suited areas when the habitat changes as a result of extreme weather. The population of Large blue in Slite was highly affected by the drought in 2018, and the population was almost extinct in 2019. But due to the size of the area there were enough variety in the habitat for the population to survive and they are now re-establishing.
There are two parameters that seem to be more important than others when the heterogeneity is investigated. The ground moisture is an important factor, as my result shows that P. arion used areas with higher ground moisture during the recovery from the drought. The other parameter is the cover of trees and bushes, that seem to be of great importance during an extreme drought.
