Which senses do wild vervet monkeys use for evaluating potential food items?

Welcome!

My name is Clara, I am a Portuguese animal biologist and ethologist with a passion for understanding animal behavior.

Funnily enough, I studied vervet monkeys (Chlorocebus pygerythrus) in captivity during my Bachelor’s, so it felt only natural to take that knowledge into the wild.
This master’s project gave me the chance to dive deeper into their behaviour in a natural setting. From controlled enclosures to unpredictable savannahs, vervets have kept me curious every step of the way.
Linköping University gave me the incredible opportunity to fulfill a dream by traveling to South Africa through the Applied Ethology and Animal Biology Master’s Program!

Studying vervet monkeys has taught me many things — like how to stay curious, be adaptable, and most importantly… never leave your lunch unattended!
