Detour-reaching task

8 males out of 23 (> 35%) entered the cylinder at least once in 30 minutes. The most successful male entered the cylinder 9 times and all individuals reached the second step (hovering). The boldest individual, male took 1.77 seconds to touch the cylinder and the most motivated male visited the nest 17 times during the baseline.

Versatility vs task

No correlation was found between song versatility and different measures of success at detour reaching task in males of this study population.

Path analysis

The egg laying date is significantly related to the mean mass of the nestling at day 12 (p = 0.010) and to the brood size (p = 0.033), meaning that the parents that lay their eggs earlier are more likely to produce larger broods with bigger nestlings. The mean nestling mass at day 12 is also significantly related to the motivation of the male (p = 0.032), meaning that the bigger the nestlings, the more often the male feed. Boldness was also found to be highly correlated to the highest step reached (p = 0.002), meaning that a bold male is more likely to succeed at the task.
