Background & Aims

Have you ever seen a lost wasp?

I like to start with this question because they never get lost and we do not realize this!

Most people in Europe have seen the German wasp (Vespula germanica) and the common wasp (Vespula vulgaris) but almost no one has ever wondered how they navigate through different environments.

These wasps can identify, learn and memorize objects as visual cues to remember where they are and never get lost.
Although they have good vision, their visual resolution (how good they can see) and the physiology of their eyes has never been studied. Due to this, my study aimed to measure their visual spatial resolution, as well as their optical sensitivity.
